SAMARIA - SEBASTIA
Hellenistic Wall
During the Hellenistic era, the older walls were strengthened by circular towers.
Excavations have revealed two of these towers near the south-western corner
of the castle, and a third tower on the north-eastern side of the wall.
Other parts of the Hellenistic wall, which was destroyed
by John Herkanios, are still visible in the western gate. The towers of
the gate were built on a square basis of Hellenistic time. It is possible
that the Hellenistic gate of the city was here too.
